Milepost — Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 27, 2026

Milepost ("the app") is an iOS and Apple Watch app that records your runs, walks and bike rides: time, distance, pace, mile or kilometre splits, and the route you took. Recording needs no account. An optional friends feature lets you share the stats of your activities, and if you choose, the streets you covered, with people you accept. There are no ads and no analytics.

What stays on your phone

Routes, GPS points and splits never leave your phone, whether or not you use friends. The one exception is the optional Share streets with friends switch described below, which is off unless you turn it on.

Apple Watch

If you record an activity on your Apple Watch, the watch measures your heart rate and the calories you burn as well as your location, and sends the finished activity to your iPhone over Apple’s own encrypted link between your two devices. Nothing recorded on the watch is sent anywhere else. While a workout is running on the watch, your iPhone can show it and pause or end it; that also travels only between your devices.

Apple Health

Milepost can add your activities to Apple Health. This is off until you turn it on in You → Apple Health, and iOS asks your permission separately before anything is written.

Apple Health is a database on your own device. Everything Milepost writes to it or reads from it stays on your device. Health data is never sent to our server, never shared with your friends, and never used for advertising or analytics. Deleting an activity in Milepost also deletes the workout Milepost wrote for it.

Location

The app asks for location access when you press Start, and only then. While an activity is being recorded it reads your GPS position, including with the screen off, to measure distance and pace and to draw the route. Recording stops when you press Finish, and the app stops tracking your location. Once you have given permission, the map on the Record screen also shows your current position (the blue dot) while the app is open on that screen, even when nothing is being recorded; that dot is drawn by iOS on your phone and is not saved or sent to our server. Your location is never sent off the device by Milepost unless you turn on Share streets with friends.

Maps. The maps in the app are Apple Maps. To draw them, your phone downloads map tiles from Apple for the area on screen, which is usually around where you are. Apple handles those requests under its own privacy policy (apple.com/legal/privacy); Milepost does not send Apple your routes or activities.

The Record screen draws your past activities on the map from the routes saved on your phone: orange for streets you covered, darker each time you cover them again. That drawing is made on your phone.

Friends (optional)

If you choose Sign in with Apple to use friends, the following is stored on our server (Supabase, hosted in the United States) and linked to your account:

Who can see it

People you have accepted as friends see your username, display name, shared activities and any streets you share. Anyone signed in can find you by searching for your username, and sees only your username and display name. Blocking someone ends the friendship and hides you from them. We can see the stored data to run the service and to review reports; it is never sold, never used for advertising, and never shared with anyone else.

Deleting your data

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask to see a copy of the information our server holds about you, have it corrected, or have it deleted, and you can delete it yourself at any time from the You tab. We will answer within 30 days and will not treat you differently for asking.

To make a request, email the address below and include your Milepost username.

Children

Milepost is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.
